General Questions

Is the Ledger Live platform free to use?

Yes, the Ledger Live application for desktop and mobile is completely free to download and use. It is the companion app for your Ledger hardware wallet (which is a one-time purchase). While the app is free, standard network fees for blockchain transactions (e.g., sending crypto) and fees from third-party service partners integrated within the app (like for buying or swapping crypto) will still apply. The core functionality of managing your assets, checking your balance, and installing apps on your device comes with no extra cost from Sentinel Crypto.

How many Ledger Live coins are supported?

The Ledger ecosystem supports a vast and growing number of crypto assets. Currently, you can manage over 5,500 different coins and tokens through the Ledger Live platform when combined with a hardware wallet. This includes major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Ripple (XRP), as well as thousands of ERC-20 tokens and assets on other popular blockchains like Solana, Polygon, and Binance Smart Chain. The list of fully integrated assets is always expanding.

Security & Self-Custody

Can I manage my crypto with Ledger without a hardware wallet?

No, the Ledger Live platform is fundamentally designed to work in tandem with a Ledger hardware wallet. The entire security model is based on the fact that your private keys, which give you ownership of your crypto, are stored offline on the physical device. Ledger Live acts as a user-friendly interface to interact with your assets, but it does not store your keys. Without the hardware wallet to approve transactions, the application cannot access or manage your funds.

What is the difference between this and an exchange wallet?

The key difference is ownership and control ('self-custody'). When you use Ledger Live with a hardware wallet, you are in complete control of your private keys. Conversely, when you store crypto on an exchange, the exchange holds the private keys for you in a custodial wallet. This means you are trusting the exchange's security. If the exchange is hacked or goes bankrupt, you could lose your assets. Ledger Live asset management empowers you with true ownership.

Is my digital asset management private?

Ledger Live is designed with privacy in mind. Unlike centralized services, Sentinel Crypto does not have access to your private keys or your transaction history. The application synchronizes with the public blockchain to display your balances. While transactions are public on the blockchain, the company has no knowledge of your personal portfolio data. The Ledger Live manager stores your settings and account information locally on your device.

What happens if I lose my Ledger hardware device?

If you lose your Ledger device, your crypto assets are still safe as long as no one else has access to your 24-word recovery phrase. You can simply purchase a new Ledger device and restore your accounts using that same recovery phrase. This phrase is the master key to all your crypto assets, so it is crucial to store it securely and never share it with anyone or enter it on any website or app other than the physical device itself during setup.

Features & Functionality

Can I stake my crypto and earn rewards with Ledger Live?

Yes, Ledger Live offers integrated staking functionality for a growing number of proof-of-stake (PoS) cryptocurrencies, such as Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Tezos (XTZ). You can delegate your assets to validators directly from the secure environment of the app, allowing you to earn rewards while maintaining self-custody of your coins. It's a powerful way to grow your portfolio passively.
